The theme for ss2016 revisits the the sea and pickniks held in small sea villages and a time when people dressed up on Sundays. This is generated through the colours and the laid back feeling of the textiles. The use of orange comes from the icelandic midnight summer sun and the blue color from the glaciers, blue skies and icelandic fresh air. The rich mountain landscape continues to inspire us in the knits. Simplicity, purity and ease are the key words here. Photos: Anthony Bacigalupo.

The wonderful news of Crown Princess Victoria expecting her second child with husband, Prince Daniel, brought back fond memories at the As We Grow office today :)
While on her official visit in Iceland, summer 2014, Crown Princess Victoria received a gift for her daughter, Princess Estelle, from the Iceland Design Centre. The gift was composed with a beautiful selection of As We Grow items, including our signature piece, the colour blocked cardie and our lace pocket cardie -both 100% alpaca- and our Peter Pan collar shirt made from 100% pima cotton. According to Halla Helgadóttir, Managing Director of the Iceland Design Centre, Victoria was very impressed by the design and quality of the As We Grow products and said that she looked forward to see them grow with little Princess Estelle ♥

New styles and colors of As We Grow children's clothing have now been beautifully displayed in stores and we couldn't be prouder!
This autumn/winter we are inspired by quality time spent with the family, going through old photos of nordic style and illustrated 70´s childrens´ books. There is a great presence of natural colours such as bisque, grey, dark brown and pale brown - with touches of strong colours in dark orange, fern green and sunshine yellow.
The focus continues to be on natural and soft styles and to produce well-made, long-lasting clothing in natural garments, Alpaca, the finest of fibres and Pima Cotton. Where workers receive fair wages, so they can send their children to school and significantly improve their often basic living conditions.
here are pictures of beautifully displayed as we grow by the staff of mýrin.

Thank you Linda Hansen for your comments about As We Grow knitting products on your wonderful blogsite loopknitting.blogspot.no. Linda has passion for knitting and started to knit when she was only 5 years old, and since she was 20 she has been knitting almost every day. A great blog about everything related to knitting.
]]>A great article about As We Grow and other children's brands that use alpaca wool and are social responsible and ecoconscious. Published in The Newspaper El Mundo in Spain and in the Newspaper Fréttablaðið in Iceland.
AS WE GROW introduced as one of the upcoming 100 children's brands in Milk Magazine Japan, august 2013.

]]>We took a few inspiring and beautiful pictures at the home of Maria, one of the two designers at As We Grow, where she lives with her husband, four children, a dog and a cat, and asked her to describe them with her own words.
"Do recommend this "multible-monkey-machine" for your kids, educational and great fun!".
"My mom just gave me her old dolls. I am so happy that they are finally mine, even though I am in my forties!"
These beautiful necklaces are by Steinunn Vala Sigfúsdóttir. They are called Pirouette Necklaces and are handmade of plastic clay with sterling silver fittings. They come in all different colours and you can even order a customized special one from her website. We borrowed some to use with our new stuff.
Even looks good hanging in Maria´s living room.

We had to fill up on the stock at the Blue Lagoon and since we had already driven all the way out there we decided to go in. It was such a beautiful day and it felt wonderful, especially since we got to try the new Algae Mask . Our skin looked so nice we didn´t dare put any makeup on afterwards.

Some days can be very hard work...

Atmo is a design store at the top of Reykjavik´s main shopping street Laugavegur. There you can find the cream of the crop from Icelandic designers. Clothes, books, music, beauty products and more. Some of our favorites include: Steinunn, Vík Prjónsdóttir and Crymogea. If you are visiting downtown, this is the place to go.

When you have a new piece of quality knitwear you undoubtably have to deal with some pilling, especially in places where there is friction. Generally alpaca is known for pilling less than both sheep´s wool and cashmere. Here is how I deal with it.
I bought a sweater-stone at my local yarn shop and just brush it over the garment in the same direction as the stitches. It is best if you hold the garment a little stretched while doing this.
After seven minutes my son´s sweater looked like this. All done.

Tomorrow we are leaving for Paris. Yeeha!
Looking forward to showing everyone our winter 2013 collection at booth H38.

Mýrin opened a new store at Geirsgata 9, just by the harbour. Of course we used the opportunity and threw a party. We got lucky because Steinunn Vala, at Hring eftir hring, made beautiful children´s necklaces to coordinate with the As We Grow clothes.
The new store is especially nice and many things caught my eye. This is the place to go on a splurge, I left there with a mint green, graphic candleholder from Finnsdottir. It´s my christmas gift to me.
After your shopping trip I recommend sitting down at in-house restaurant Mar, designed by cool couple Karítas and Hafsteinn at Haf.
]]>We are proud to be in the new Icelandair Saga Shop Collection brochure, page 68. Now, you can buy As We Grow unique, alpaca hats and scarfs when flying with Icelandair.
]]>I was reading a magazine the other day and they recommended a book by Elizabeth L Cline called Overdressed The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion. It instantly hit a note with me and now I am waiting for it to arrive in the mail.
In the meantime I have been reading some of Elizabeth´s articles and I found these two quite intriguing: What´s Behind Cheap Chic Fabrics? and The History of a Cheap Dress. I am certainly no saint when it comes to cheap fashion but I believe it is better to be informed when choosing to buy something. Being aware is the first step.
]]>Mýrin is an Icelandic Design shop located in shopping mall Kringlan. They were the first shop to start selling our line. We are so happy with how Karitas, the lovely shop assistant, arranged the clothes on display.
We are happy to aanounce that you can now get As We Grow at Barnabúðin, Mýrin and Rammagerðin
]]>The Snoop-Around people came to visit us for some photos and info about our label.

]]>We are using these last days of summer to dine outside before it gets too cold. It doesn´t need to be anything fancy, just some meat, potatoes and sauce from a jar, a bottle of red wine is essential. Hot dog for the kids and you´re all set.

This little, perfect boy was born on 16. June and he has been my reason for this long blogging hiatus. He is absolutely perfect and we could not be happier. His 5 year old brother is also extremely kind to him which is a great relief. He doesn´t have a name yet but we will give him one soon enough.
As for our products, they will be sent from Perú at the end of the month and will be stores in Iceland, Copenhagen and Berlin from Mid-September. Very exciting for us. I´ll keep you posted.

One of our retailers for next winter will be this beautiful Danish shop Astas. It is located at Nicolaj Plads 11 in Copenhagen. Christina Krøyer is the owner of the boutique and she also designs exclusive pieces for the shop´s own label.
Christina has created a unique universe with carefully selected childernswear and we believe As We Grow will fit in perfectly when it arrives in the fall.
These wooden clogs are truly scandinavian in form and color. I wish they came in my size.
Astas is located at Nicolaj Plads 11, 1067 København K. Opening hours: Mo-Thu 11-17:30, Fr 11-18, Sa 10-15.
]]>Today marks the official start of summer here in Iceland. Schools are closed and we celebrate, some of us even receive a little gift that has to do with summer, maybe a skipping rope or a kite.
There is also a Children´s Cultural Festival going on in Reykjavik so there is an unusual amount of activities to choose from.
The Festival is held now for the second time 17.-22. of April. With almost 200 events to choose from the aim is to increase cultural interest with children.
The picture above is from the opening event where 1100 9-10 year olds danced in synchrony at the Harpa Concert Hall by the harbour.
There are so many activities to choose from, including: Lego workshop, kite factory, Biophilia music factory, Origami, Charlie Chaplin´s The Circus at the cinema and so on and so on...
