Participating in United Nations Women's Guild Bazaar

This november we took part in the yearly United Nations Women´s Guild Bazaar.
"Every year, the United Nations Women's Guild in Geneva, in collaboration with the Permanent Missions accredited to the United Nations, the Geneva government authorities and business community organizes an International Bazaar and Lottery to raise funds for disadvantaged children around the world".
The Icelandic booth drew a lot of attention. There you could find childrenswear, salt, books and history maps.
"Over the years, the Bazaar has become the premier event in the international community. The UNWG Bazaar attracts more than 6 000 visitors and raises approximately 300 000 CHF. International arts, crafts and foods stalls sell their wares and lottery tickets are on sale with over 200 fabulous prizes to be won."

The First Day of Summer in Iceland

Today marks the official start of summer here in Iceland. Schools are closed and we celebrate, some of us even receive a little gift that has to do with summer, maybe a skipping rope or a kite.

There is also a Children´s Cultural Festival going on in Reykjavik so there is an unusual amount of activities to choose from.

The Festival is held now for the second time 17.-22. of April.  With almost 200 events to choose from the aim is to increase cultural interest with children.

The picture above is from the opening event where 1100 9-10 year olds danced in synchrony at the Harpa Concert Hall by the harbour.

There are so many activities to choose from, including: Lego workshop, kite factory, Biophilia music factory, Origami, Charlie Chaplin´s The Circus at the cinema and so on and so on...

Looking Forward to Our Debut at CPH KIDS

"We are very excited and are already looking forward to it, growing with you and your children on board" says María Ólafsdóttir and Guðrún Ragna Sigurjónsdóttir, the designers of the Icelandic brand As We Grow, that is debuting at CPH KIDS fashion fair 2-5 februar. María graduated from Parsons School of Design and has over 20 years of experience in designing for children, and Guðrún graduated from the Iceland Academy of the Arts and has been designing knitwear since she was a little girl, and has worked among others at Karen Millen.

A/W 2012 is a mixture of charming retro pieces in simple shapes all in their signature alpaca and wool yarns, achieving a luxurious look with a vintage feel.

"Our collection focuses on blending Scandinavian design with one of the most precious natural fibers in the world, alpaca from the Peruvian Andes, that is ideally suited for use in baby clothing, because it is both soft and comfortable".

The clothes are for active children and the range allows for layering and encourages mixing and matching to create individual looks and styles.

"We welcome everyone to visit us at the fair and are extremely excited", says Guðrún.
